drugs vs. soul
2001-05-31 2:07 a.m.

today i saw a documentary on the discovery channel about rave parties in thailand.

well in it there was this interview with a british guy which mainly said:

"i dont believe in budaism and the elevation of the spirit. i believe that the natural thing is to obey your basic instincts, and go according to your urges meaning going to partys, taking drugs, and fucking all the time. i mean animals and plants never do things that are against their instincts, and when a human being is doing that he's just running away from life, and thus all budahists are running away."

well i dont think i agree. i mean that's exactly what does seperate us from animals and plants. we have human thought and feelings, which other life forms dont.

so if possible, an elevation of the spirit and satisfaction of the mind is much more meaningfull then just going to rave partys, having bodily fun.

not that bodily fun cant be good, but to a limit. after the british dude talked they showed pictures of the rave partys. everybody was stoned on the beach, dancing like animals and sleeping on the sand with bits of trash everywhere. it seems to me right now that that's more messed up than being in a buddahist convent or joining a poetry group.

i'll have to try both ways (partying with drugs, convent) some day.

quote of the day "time is what keeps light from getting to us".

think of light in a metaphorical way. it opens up thousands of interpretations to this sentence.
